granola

Granola is awesome as cereal! It’s my current favorite. I have only tried 2 different brands, but they were both yummy. I’ve had the 365 brand from Whole Foods and the Cascadian Farm(s?) brand bought at Publix. It’s another organic/natural brand. It’s totes yummy and way more filling than any other cereal I’ve had. It took me a while to figure out how much to put in my bowl because I couldn’t finish the first 2 or 3 bowls I made for myself. I’ve been eating it for a while, but I just now thought about blogging about it. I’m sure you’re let down by that.

Tonight, we went and got dinner for us and Brian’s parents and ate with them at their house. We visited a while, then we decided to go ahead and go to Academy since I wanted a new sports bra and possibly these shorty shorts I’ve been thinking about getting for running. The selection is really slim right now for some reason, but I’m guessing it’s because they’re about to get tons of new summer stuff, which is awesome! I tried on the shorts, and they are not what I hoped for. I jogged in place for a second, and they just weren’t going to cut it. I ended up getting some other really short shorts that are so comfy and should be awesome. They only had mediums in 2 colors, and one of those colors was pepto pink, so I obviously chose the maroon ones, which are still pretty ugly, but goodness. At least I’m not glaring in some puke-o pink. If I end up liking them, I’ll just get more when they re-stock. Plus, most of the sports bras they had were the kind that doesn’t even work, and some of those were the really expensive brands. So, I just got 1, but it’s pretty purple, and I hope it works out well. Blah blah enough of that!

GOOD THING: finished reading Craig Ferguson’s book “American on Purpose” – entertaining and great!
BAD THING: bed time boooooooooo

awesome book

You NEED to read this!

sick day

Today is hump day. My hump is approaching faster than normal because I am probably going to skip Bible study and dinner at church tonight since I feel so bad. I hardly can sit at work all day, so I need to rest tonight. I have high hopes that I will feel better tomorrow! No medicine seems to be working, but maybe my new Zpack will kick in soon.

Choxie is so awesome! She’s really snuggly and pretty. I love her.

I sold a necklace online this week. Toot! It was the cheapest one, of course, but $10 never hurt anybody. I am going to mail it to them tomorrow.

I cannot wait until this weekend! Friday is going to kick it off right by granting me a half day of work. Later that night, I’m going to meet up with some friends from work to hear the authors of Same Kind of Different As Me speak at Samford. That book was so good. I’m super excited to hear them talk! The worst part is that one of them is sick right now, so he might no be there, and he’s the best part.

GOOD THING: over half the week is over
BAD THING: going to rain again

choices

Of all that is on the word wide web, why can I never find anything to look at online? I am the worst time killer ever.

I have lots of travelling that I want to do during the year 2010, and I hope at least some of it happens.

I just finished reading my new book by Chelsea Handler, and it was seriously hilarious. I am going to buy everything else she’s written next time I purchase some books. I’m moving on to the Family, per recommendation by Casey. It’s way smarter and more serious than Chelsea’s book, so it will take some adjusting. I’m a little leary of getting angry and/or creeped out by it, but I have to see what’s in there. It’s like a train wreck or a scary movie. I’m reading through cracked fingers!

Tonight was pretty sweet because I had no plans. We wanted to eat early tonight, and we drove to Sam’s Deli to get some yummy and cheap burgz. We also shared cheese fries! today at lunch, I ate a vegan Kashi meal that was the Mayan Harvest Bake, and it was pretty yummy. I can’t remember everything in it, but it’s plantains on their pilaf with sweet potatoes, amaranth (whatever that is) and polenta something or another with ancho chili sauce. It sounds weird, but it was really good. My least favorite thing in their meals is their special pilaf, which sucks because it’s in every dang one of them. It has a strong taste, so it kind of takes over at times. I actually bought 2 more of those tonight at the grocery store and a different one I want to try.

Choxie is sleeping beside me on the couch and is experiencing some crazy twitches right now.

Oh! I forgot to mention: Last night at the UMW dinner thing, I had lots of fun. We met at someone’s house and talked business for a minute, mostly just to learn about the big fundraiser we’re doing this year, and then we had a nice dinner with fancy Christmas china and all that. We had really good chili and salad with the best dressing – raspberry vinaigrette – and some bread. Then, we all got some ice cream with a brownie and some other SUPER yummy dessert. The best part was all the funny conversations we had at dinner. I was laughing so hard at one woman asking about what goes on at the spa….I almost wanted to call her today to see how her first trip turned out!

GOOD THING: Brian made it up to Decatur to wander in the wild and back safely today.
BAD THING: It just got late – fast! I need to go get in bed.

whoa nelly

Today was SO BUSY at work! It was probably my least favorite day of the year so far. 😦 I really hope tomorrow is better. I stayed an extra 40 minutes or so today just so tomorrow morning won’t feel so overwhelming. Let’s hope it works!

This past weekend was pretty awesome. Brian and I went to the lake by ourselves Friday at lunch time because he took off work for his birthday that was Wednesday. They let him choose whatever day he wants. We went to Pizza Hut in Clanton for dinner and had pizza for lunch the next day. It was really yummy. PH wins the pizza contest. We lad lots of fun at dinner laughing about stuff. When we got home, we chatted with his sister on the phone for a long time, and that was funny, too. Brian got to wakeboard for a little while Friday evening right in front of the house because the water was so calm. It was really awesome and fun to drive him with perfect water and no other boats. It started lightning, so we had to quit lest we get struck down. The next day, we woke up late, then took the boat out again. I got to wakeboard then, and I wakeboarded for a realllly long time until my arms hurt too bad to hang on. The water was pretty rough, so that sucked my energy up faster. We had a good time either way. Choxie played in the water some more, too! She likes it. Brian’s dad came down about the time we were thinking about leaving, so we took him for a long boat ride complete with the dog after he had time to mow the yard. Choxie was too cold on that ride, and she got restless. That resulted in her peeing in the boat. A lot. She’s never done that before, so I’m blaming it on the really rough water over an extended amount of time.

Sunday was the day that Dr. Sleeth came to speak at our church! I was so excited for him to be there. The only things that went wrong Sunday were these things: I decided to wake up early to go hear what he had to say BEFORE the Q&A time, but I heard his talk at the later service was awesome and different than at the early service. Oh well. Also, he announced that he would sign books after the second service, which I wasn’t going to. Thank goodness someone volunteered to get my book signed! I know it’s not a big deal, but it is to me. I am really glad I got to go up and meet Dr. Sleeth before the church service that morning to thank him for coming and tell him how excited we were for him to be there. He’s a really nice guy, and I think he’s funny, too. I’m looking forward to his next book coming out.

Sunday afternoon, I went to the bookstore and bought 2 new books and a planner. I’m pretty excited about my books, but I will wait and talk about them later when I have real comments on them.

GOOD THING: today is OVER!
BAD THING: still haven’t planned September’s Circle meeting – oops!

hold your horses!

Whoa – My work and volunteer world has suddenly become overwhelming this week. Everything is happening at once, so I’m super busy. I’ll go ahead and say it even though I may jinx myself as usual, but I really do think it will get better soon. I’m thinking tomorrow will be another day of accomplishments to check off my list. Today was more just working with no end, but yesterday, I actually crossed some stuff off my list, and I think tomorrow I can do the same.

I’m currently cooking dinner for Stephanie & Kevin from my Sunday School class because they had a baby a little while back. They’re getting Mexican casserole and a bunch of fruit. I hope they like it okay!

Today at work, we had lunch provided since it’s Fat Tuesday. Coincidentally, my mother in law is the person who donates that lunch every year, and it’s yums. I had so much that I’m not even hungry for dinner still!

Brian just choked me multiple times from multiple angles while trying to “hug” me lots in a row. He tried. I guess hugging someone’s head is basically choking them, after all, and that’s all he can do with me sitting on the couch with a laptop in my lap.

My feet hurt so bad! I’m wearing tennis shoes or something equally as comfortable to work tomorrow.

I planted flowers Sunday afternoon in our yard! I need to buy some more to add to it. You can’t see them now because they’re bulbs, but I hope they’ll come out this summer. They’ll look better next year since the first year isn’t so great sometimes, but they’ll still be cool, hopefully. We already have some that others before us have planted, but I wanted to add my own. I think I’ll do some more maybe this weekend. Toot!

I got a new book Friday afternoon, and it’s very interesting so far. If I think it’s good even after I finish it, I’ll let you know.

GOOD THING: filled my car up this afternoon
BAD THING: so tired because I keep having tons of weirdo dreams – swimming in a pool that stirred up tons of mossy sludge every time I kicked? What is that all about?

books

I have read 2 books in the past 3 days. They are:

Both books were really good in different ways. I’m sure you’ve heard all about both, but I just now got around to them, and I’m glad I did. You should read them.

Other than that, the ocean is FREEEEEZING, but Brian and I still got in yesterday twice because it would feel like such a waste to not get in. The water here is always so gorgeous that it makes you want to get in and never get out.

We will be going on a fishing trip for 6 hours on Wednesday morning. We know that is a short trip, but it’s the only one would could be guaranteed to happen since they needed more people than we could provide for the longer trips. Plus, I haven’t been fishing in the ocean before, so we’re all thinking I might get sick since I can get motion sickness just sitting at my desk at work.

Our condo is really nice, and the beach isn’t crowded at all – mostly because it’s October, and another major factor is that we’re staying on down from where all the huge condos/hotels are.

Brian’s parents are so weird; we just keep laughing out loud at them.

story time

This book:

Oh, my goodness. This is what I did all weekend.

I don’t even know what to say about this book besides AWESOME. Of course, that’s just my personal opinion. I found it super witty, emotional, intriguing, and all those meaningless words people use to describe good books. It’s about a teen boy’s experiences growing up in the South in the 70s, but it touches on much larger, very real issues like racism, religion, love and sexuality. I laughed constantly, and I don’t know how many times I told Brian this book should be made into a movie. I really just loved everything about it except that it ended.

I am not what I would call an avid reader by any means, so when people start talking about authors they just love, I back out of that conversation. However, I am beginning to unintentionally create that very list of authors in my head. Mark Childress will be on it; I can tell.

Friday, I went to the bookstore, and I left with 3 books, all of which I’d never heard of before. I will talk about the others later. I tried to start one of the other two, but it’s just not what I expected, and the other will be started very soon because I’ve read another of her books, and I loved it, too, so I have high hopes for that one.

GOOD THING: 4 day work week!
BAD THING: lake plans have been thwarted

ho hum

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the best movie I’ve seen in a while. You might want to check it out. Lots of memorable lines from this one!

Know what else is good? This book:

I know sounds and looks cheesy, but it really is a great book to read. It’s really short and easy to read, and it makes a lot of sense. Plus, at the end, there is a quick quiz for both husbands and wives that helps pinpoint your primary love languages to help you know what you’re dealing with. Presto! I’m not much for sappy things, so don’t be scared. It’s really not bad.

Oh my! I’ve been forgetting Good Thing/Bad Thing. You people are supposed to remind me!

GOOD THING: I won this month’s round of putt putt with my parents.
BAD THING: major head/jaw/neck ache tonight
