disaster friday

This weekend wasn’t as bad as last weekend, which was so crappy, but it’s had its moments. Here was Friday:

We decided to go to the lake when Brian got home. I felt a little annoyed because that means I spent my Friday afternoon off trying to get Cora to take a nap, and then I had to pack up for us to go to the lake. It’s only for 1 night, but with her, it takes a little more thought even though it’s not bad. Brian got home, and we eventually packed up to head out.

When we got there, Cora peed in her pants, so I had to change her clothes. Brian was carrying things in from the car. I said “that’s not everything, is it?” He said it was. I hadn’t seen the bag with my clothes or Cora’s clothes. We quickly realized it was still in our living room an hour away. All I had for the 2 of us was: her diapers, a jacket for me because it was in my back seat, and the clothes we were wearing.

It doesn’t take much these days to quickly ruin my day and mood, and that about did it. I was already unsure of our choice to go to the lake, and now this. Brian said we would run to Wal-Mart and buy what we needed. I seriously didn’t want to buy anything at Wal-Mart, but I agreed. We took Cora in just a shirt and diaper because she had nothing else. We took a notebook and pen from the kitchen so I could make a shopping list on the way. About 2 minutes after we left, I told Brian I accidentally left the notebook on the trunk of the car, which means we’d lost it on the road already. No biggy. I wrote on a receipt from my purse.

When we pulled up, I decided I didn’t need my purse, so I left it in the car. My list was in it, of course! We went in, and I couldn’t believe how sparse a selection there was. I’ve been to Wal-Mart before when I hated to admit how many clothes I wanted to buy. This wasn’t a time like that. I found what had to be enough, and we left.

When we got home, we washed all the things we bought immediately. (Note: we forgot to get me a toothbrush and toothpaste or anything for lunch the next day.) While Cora waited with no pants still, she somehow peed all in the kitchen floor and decided it was fun stuff to play in. Brian found her swirling her hands all in the pee like she was finger painting, and her legs were in it, too. I snatched her up and ran her legs under the sink! Gross.

No clothes I bought for Cora fit, and all I had to wear was black yoga pants and a brown long sleeved shirt, but we made it.

FYI – Cora has weirdly spit up a few times today, and she’s tried to play in it each time. Maybe she will love to finger paint when she’s older.

We are home now, she and I have had baths, we’re in clothes we like and that fit, and all our clothes are clean. Yay!

whole foods trip

Nothing like going to Whole Foods with a baby in an Ergo to buy essential oils! hahahaha

I could spend $300 in the bath/toiletries section!

events

HELLO. Most of you know all of this, so I won’t drag it out.

Friday, we went to our friend Julie’s birthday party. It was fun to see people we don’t get to see much lately. We turned in early to get home and sleep before Saturday’s big event! However, Cora did NOT SLEEP FRIDAY NIGHT. I think I woke up about 7 or 8 times, and I might have slept 2 hours straight once…? Not sure. Either way, it sucked.

Saturday was the Warrior Dash! Sheena convinced me to sign up, and I’m so glad I did! I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to do all of the obstacles or even run a full 5K, but it was easy! The obstacles were not hard, and they were all fun. I’m proud of us! Here are 2 of my favorite pictures:

ImageIt was super cold after we finished, but it was still fun. It was a good way to start a Saturday! I loved that we could start later in the morning, too.

Later that evening, our family went to Moe’s BBQ for a low-key and delicious meal.

Sunday was our anniversary! We went to church and had a weird lunch of McDonald’s in the car because Cora fell asleep while we were driving around and because we knew we’d probably go out to dinner later that evening. That afternoon, Brian told me he needed to do something in the kitchen without me. He was thoughtful enough to look up the traditional anniversary gift for 6 years, which is iron & candy, and he made me an iron skillet chocolate chip cookie dessert! It’s basically a giant-sized chocolate chip cookie made from scratch in an iron skillet and baked in the oven. It’s AWESOME! He’s so nice. We did en up going to Surin for dinner, and it was amazing as always! I’ve decided I love to go out to eat on Sunday nights. It’s like one last hurrah before the week gets started!

Good stuff.

vacation review

In September, the Mezzell family took our first family vacation! That’s a milestone! Forgive me since you probably already know all of this. We went to Destin, Florida, and we also took our moms/Cora’s grandmothers. Their names are JoJo and Grandmama, actually. Choxie also went! That’s another first for us.

It was absolutely THE BEST weather and water I’ve ever seen there. It was perfect!

ImageIs that gorgeous turquoise, shallow, perfect water in Barbados? Fiji? NOPE! Just a little place called Destin right here in the US of A.

Cora was a rock star and loved the beach, being in the ocean, playing in the pool, and going out to eat. She wore her sunglasses and her hat with little rejection. On two days, she didn’t get in any water because I figured she could use a break, but after her break, she loved everything. Our moms were AWESOME help to have.

ImageShe learned this sweet move while we were there. I think it’s her wave to people (or dogs). She’s slowly stopped doing it, but she was doing it all the time there, and she’ll still do it sometimes.

On Thursday, we took a special time away to play with Choxie. We drove over to Panama City Beach to take her to the doggy beach!

ImageChoxie liked sniffing sticks and stuff out of the ocean, and she also rolled around on some bright green plant matter from the ocean. She did a few weird, spastic hops on the sand, and then she plopped down to lay there and smile. She must’ve had fun sniffing and testing out the sand!

Our wedding anniversary is just a week after we came back, and we usually take off for a long weekend for that, but since we just went to the beach, we will not this year. This can count since it’s so close. So, here’s a pic of us on our quasi-anniversary trip!Image

A major thing to note is that Cora let us drive all the way back without stopping! That was a major accomplishment for 4 hours +.
